Rubicon Crossing Investments

A private holding company in Charlotte, North Carolina. We consider slowly. We commit fully.

II — Approach

Some decisions are made once.We make them on purpose.

Rubicon Crossing Investments is a private, owner-run holding company. It puts its own capital to work. There is no fund, no committee of strangers and no quarterly pressure to be clever.

That changes how we behave. We can take the time a good decision needs. We can say no early and plainly. And when we say yes, we stay, because the money on the table is our own.

The name is the method. Caesar's river was narrow and the crossing was short; what mattered was that he meant it. We think long before the water and never on the far bank.

Careful before. Committed after.

III — Holdings

Where the capital goes, and where it does not.

  1. i

    Operating businesses

Owner-led companies with real customers and a reason to exist. We look for businesses that are understood by the people running them, and we prefer to back those people rather than replace them.

  2. ii

    Real property

Buildings and land held for the long term, in places we can drive to. Income and stewardship first, appreciation as a consequence, never as the plan.

  3. iii

    Partnerships with operators

Capital alongside a capable operator on a defined project, where we bring patience and a clear head, and the operator brings the trade.

  4. iv

    What we do not do

We are not a fund, we do not manage money for others and we do not solicit investors. If you are looking for an adviser, we are the wrong door, and we will say so kindly.

IV — Process

From a first noteto a firm yes.

  1. 1 — Step one

    Introduction

A short reply, not a form letter.

Write to us through the form below with who you are and what you have in mind. A paragraph is enough. Every note is read by the principal.

  2. 2 — Step two

    Conversation

We learn the business before the numbers.

A call or a meeting in Charlotte. We ask how the thing actually works, who makes it work and what you want for it. You ask us anything you like.

  3. 3 — Step three

    Diligence

    Quiet, thorough, proportionate.

We review what matters for the decision and nothing for show. You will know what we need, why we need it and roughly how long it takes.

  4. 4 — Step four

    Decision

    Yes or no, said clearly.

We decide, and we tell you plainly either way, with our reasons. A clean no is a courtesy; we never leave a door half open.

  5. 5 — Step five

    Commitment

    The far bank.

Once we are in, we are in. We keep our word on terms, stay reachable and stay patient. We were careful before the crossing so we can be steady after it.

V — What to expect

No promiseswe cannot keep.

  1. i

    Discretion.

What you tell us stays with us. Conversations do not become anecdotes.

  2. ii

    Straight answers.

If something is not a fit, you hear it early and you hear why.

  3. iii

    Our own capital.

No intermediaries to satisfy and no fund cycle forcing a sale. Decisions are made by the person you speak to.

  4. iv

    Patience.

We measure in years. We are not in a hurry to buy, and we are in less of a hurry to sell.

  5. v

    One point of contact.

You deal with the principal, from the first note to long after the crossing.

Rubicon Crossing Investments is owned and run by its principal. There is no layer between the decision and the person you speak to.

Every introduction, conversation and commitment goes through one desk in Charlotte. That is the point of a private company, and the reason we keep it this way.
